Portugal is a country rich in culture, history and fine weather. It also boasts some of the finest golf courses in the world, from the outskirts of the bustling and vibrant capital city of Lisbon, to the azure seas around the Algarve. We’ve come up with 7 of what we think are the ultimate courses in Portugal.

Penha Longa, Atlantic Course

There are few places where you need to worry about avoiding an ancient aqueduct when hitting an approach shot towards the green. Well, that’s part of the experience at Penha Longa. This Spectacular course sites within a nature reserve, with constant elevation changes and some of the quickest greens in Iberia.

Oitavos Dunes

Oitavos Dunes constantly features in top 100 golf courses in the world rankings. It’s a natural couse, and is located on raised ground overlooking the Atlantic. The greens are fast, with well-groomed and lush fairways.

Oceanico Courses, Victoria & Old Course

This course frequently hosts the European Tour’s Portugal Masters, and subsequently is a true test of golf with many hills, cleverly positioned bunkers and numerous water hazards. Monte Rei Golf Club

Quinta do Logo, North and South Courses

Known as the Jewel in the Quinta do Logo crown, the South has hosted eight Portuguese Opens. Designed by William Mitchell, the South requires target-golf accuracy off the tee and is known to be a favorite course of many European Tour players.

Vale do Lobo, Royal & Ocean Courses

The Royal Course at Vale do Lobo has the most picturesque golf hole in Portugal, and, arguably, in all of Europe. Number 16 overlooks the spectacular turquoise blue ocean with a clay cliff separating the golf hole and the beach. Many believe the Ocean Course has the better overall layout, but it’s hard to beat the eye candy at Number 16.

San Lorenzo Golf Club

It’s important to note that in order to play San Lorenzo guests must stay at the Dona Filipa Hotel. Opened in 1988, San Lorenzo Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in Portugal. The course is played on undulating pine woodland with perfectly groomed Bermuda grass fairways and is located on the southeast corner of Quita do Lago bordering the estuary and the saltwater lagoons.
